The Seven Hearths (1312) sit where the real trials ended in acquittal, shelter or silence, plus Paris where they did not. Only the Seven vote in Chapter.
Tomar: Hearth of the Round Church. Mother House; Chapter-General; the Charola; keeper of the Stone.
Miravet (Aragon): Hearth of the Road. Road Fleet: escort wing, navigation and passes.
Grumbach (Rhine): Hearth of the Shield. Shield Fleet: arms, training, protection; 'We go in' cut into its lintel.
Ravenna (Ravenna/Bologna): Hearth of Letters. Law, records, Ark liaison, the Living Codex scriptorium.
Limassol (Cyprus): Hearth of the Sea. Ships and yards; home yard of the flagships; breaking yard for worn hulls (the Charter forbids reselling them).
Balantrodoch (Scotland): Hearth of the North. Frontier and quiet operations.
Paris: Hearth of Ashes. Bread Fleet hospitals; the Temple Fund; Notre-Dame memorial. Begun in Aelis's cellar, 1307.
Outer Hearths (from 2040; the first on Mars, 2120): satellites with a voice in their founding Hearth's council, no vote in Chapter; eleven by 2821. After 2822 Outer Commanderies on frontier worlds and stations; eleven in 2956. Each flies the red cross on white and the black-and-white Beauseant and keeps an Empty Chair at the head of its table.
